There are many messages that I look forward to sharing with the readers of this book. They include the threads that weave together these inspirational individuals and how we can all strive to become positive role models. At a time when many people feel powerless to create positive change, it is essential to have and to pursue goals and dreams. This involves believing and allowing oneself to take steps on undiscovered ground. It also involves taking initiative and daring to pursue the cause. The lessons are not in the words, they are clearly derived from action. The perceived cost of taking a calculated risk may often be exceedingly overwhelming. In such cases, there are only two options:
- To abandon one’s objectives before taking the first step.
- To believe so strongly and firmly in one’s endeavors that inaction is no longer an option.
This year, I am taking a calculated risk. Although the Wenatchee School District has been very supportive of this project, it does not have a paid sabbatical system in place. Thus, I am taking an unpaid leave of absence for the next 12 months. Throughout this year, I will need to replace my income and the costs involved in finishing up three more interviews. I am searching for individuals and businesses that believe in the importance of this project and are interested in supporting my efforts through sponsorship and donations.
